IZZET ELECTRO-END (RHINOS) By MastaHorusMTG
Olivier Consille (Masta Horus) is a French Magic player and streamer who was kind enough to share his Modern Electrodominance Living End deck with us.
Izzet Electro-End is based on the original « Blue End » Deck wich popped up brievely during the Amonket block and played by famous players like Gabriel Nassif. That deck was basically a Living End deck not using Cascade cards but a new enchantment for 2U called As Foretold, wich allows us to cast a free suspended spell for 0. Also Amonket block had few very interesting blue cyclers big creatures like Curator of Mysteries and Striped Riverwinder for exemple, very usefull for the deck.
Later with « Ravnica allegiance » block I noticed immediately a very cool new instant card to me, called Electrodominance (XRR, it deals X damage to any target and you can cast a spell with cmc X or less without paying its mana cost). That means that we can cast free spells for 2 !
For the free spells, first I was playing Living End and Ancestral Vision; it was okay, but vision is not a wincon it was just a way to find one. Fortunately one day Modern master came out and we got a new toy with Crashing Footfalls ; an amazing addition to the deck because it turns the deck less sensitive to grave hate and gives another wincon.
The deck is of course a combo deck, but as we are also playin counterspells (Check the Decklist), I define this deck clearly as a « Control Combo » deck. So if you like combos and also interactions this deck is maybe a good pick for you if you like uncommon but efficient decks but needed a bit of learning to be played at the best efficiency.
Quick Sideboard Guide
Sideboard is a very important thing to play modern, if it’s not the most important with of course knowing your deck perfectly and knowing the actual meta the best you can.
Izzet electro-end will sometimes struggle to face very fast agressive decks especially the actual Burn deck, because we need to be very fast to kill them before they kill us because of Burn spells. Other aggro decks will be okay as they generally have quite poor answers to our combo and Living Endis a very effective wincon against them. But if the meta is heavy on aggro decks with tricky creatures like in « humans » or « death&taxes » the key card to board in is Anger of the Gods, 1 to 3 copies needed.
Control decks matchup depends mostly about the skills of the players, and a bit about luck and SB tech both players will use. Basically be patient or very fast ; rhinos T2 can win the game ; Force of Negation is really good obviousely in those matchups and as sideboard cards we will run Counterspell and Mystical Dispute (x2 both). Be carefull about Teferi time raveler who is killing electrodominance effect and flusterstorm wich is a very good way to win counter war for them.

Combo decks are okay to fight as we are playing multiple counterspells and we can have a descent pressure Crashing Footfalls too at the same time. Creatures based combo decks are okay if we can cast Living End in time ; and spells combo decks will be about be balanced between counterspells and wincons for us. So board in 2x counsterspell and maybe Tormod's Crypt if combo based on grave. Also of course if we talk big mana decks, Alpine Moon x2/3 will be the cards to board in.
Midrange decks could be tricky to fight, but I generally think that’s not so difficult to win against them if you know their lists a bit. Shadow decks especially are complicated to deal with because they can put a big pressure and using discard and counterspells and thats a bit too much to deal with, so that’s where Chalice of the Void are usefull, and aslo you can run 1 Engineered Explosives if you have one. For other midrange decks using discards, just accept to be discarded, you can still win through counterspells and our combos because the 1 for 1 of those decks not really usefull against us.
To finish don’t forget to run artifacts hate with 2 or 3 Prismari Commands wich is an amazing card for our deck and protect us from very ennoying permanents like all 0 or 1 drop grave hate , Chalice of the Void for 0 (our nightmare) and Ensnaring Bridge. Those commands also usefull to fight all artifacts like in Hammer decks or others. Finally if we talk about what opponents could also bring against us, Brazen Borrowers are answers to ennoying permanents never forget that.
Enjoy and ElectroEnd your opponents !
